Cavo Restaurant
I have been going to Cavo, a Greek restaurant in Astoria for the past five years. The food was always good and the atmosphere was fun. We met friends there a couple of weeks ago and I had a very disagreeable meal. I wanted to have the pasta with Scallops but I was not that excited about the sauce that came with the dish. When I asked about other possibilities for a sauce, I was informed that Cavo does not alter any dishes that they serve on a Friday or Saturday night. I was amazed.
The waiter brought over the manager who confirmed that this is the case. He said that they were too busy to modify dishes and to prove his point, he said that they would not even remove the vegetables if I was allergic to them. He did say that they offered free valet parking and free coat checking services. I did not know that the reason you go to restaurants was for the coat check. I will have to include this on my list of requirements.
I was disappointed with his defensive attitude and felt that the employees of Cavo should read the One Hundred Things Restaurant Staffers Should Never Do since they tripped up on several items.
I am still at a loss for words on their rationale on why no changes or modifications could be made. Their claim is that they want to ensure that all of their food is hot. I would think that swapping a sauce or changing a vegetable would not affect this. Maybe their chef is not equipped to handle this size restaurant.
Either way, I ended up ordering a dish that I did not really want and I did not enjoy my dining experience.
In sum, please avoid Cavo due to their superior and indifferent attitude towards their customers.
