Things that may only interest me

I was thinking the other day about things that I find interesting that most people do not.  The first topic is our history.  I find history interesting because it shows where we have been and in most cases this is a good indication of where we are headed.  Societies have backgrounds that drive their futures.  For example, our views towards work and sex are driven by our Puritan forefathers.

A significant portion of the people who came to the United States arrived from Europe but we have a vastly different attitude towards work and sex than they do.  Why is that?  I believe it is comes from the fact that the Puritans who came to America came in order to practice their own religion.  This included their Puritan work effort as well as their view towards abstaining from a slew of activities.  They spread this philosopher through the many teachers who trace their roots to this community.  As a result, our education system had this Puritan background as its foundation which has perpetuated itself over the last couple of centuries.

What does this mean to us?

First, we tend to work harder and take less vacation than our European counterparts.  In some respect, we do not enjoy life as much as they do.  We tend to be more repressed than others in the world and find less joy in life.
